A Proverb for the Day (11:23)

September 16th, 2009 by Jeremy Sprouse

“The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath” (Proverb 11:23 NASU). Our goal should be to pursue godliness and righteousness to the point we only care about what is good. Paul tells us to dwell and think on whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, or good repute, and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8). There is no reason a Christian should be constantly dwelling upon bad things. In contrast, the wicked should expect nothing but wrath. It is what they have been working for and storing up for themselves (cf. Romans 2:5-9). By turning our lives to God and obeying the Gospel (cf. 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10) we don’t have to worry about wrath, but can look at eternity positively.
