A Proverb for the Day (11:3)

April 28th, 2009 by Jeremy Sprouse

“The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them” (Proverbs 11:3 NASU). The upright are those who live straightforward and honest lives. Those guided by integrity will not be crooked or treacherous. They will not be so focused on personal gain and advancement that they will step on others to achieve their goals. Integrity guides us to be honest, compassionate, and loyal. When integrity is guiding your life it will affect everything in your life, even little things like not cheating at card games or returning shopping carts so they will not be a nuisance to others.

A lack of integrity seems to be a way to advance in the world, but in the end it is destructive. It saps away the joy of success and the satisfaction of hard work. Of course, it is ultimately destructive spiritually. Life is better when we simply do our best and live straightforward lives rather than cheating and stepping on others.
