A Proverb for the Day 10:30

April 21st, 2009 by Jeremy Sprouse

“The righteous will never be shaken, But the wicked will not dwell in the land” (Proverbs 10:30 NASU). The language is that of the Land Promise to Israel. Joshua warned the people if they didn’t follow the way of the Lord they would perish from the land (Joshua 23:11-13, 15, 16). If the people were righteous they would be allowed to stay in the land. If not, they would be removed. We see the fulfillment of these promises and this proverb in the Assyrian and Babylonian captivities of Israel.

The same is true for our Promised Land (i.e., heaven). Only the righteous are going to dwell in heaven (2 Peter 3:13-16). Heaven is the only place that will never be shaken (Hebrews 12:25-29)–there is great security there and we will be there forevermore. If we want to go to Heaven, however, we must strive for righteousness; the wicked will not make it.
