A Proverb for the Day 10:22

March 5th, 2009 by Jeremy Sprouse

“It is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich, And He adds no sorrow to it” (Proverbs 10:22 NASU). The way wealth is acquired is important. Many people want to be rich, but most try to do it without God. This only causes sorrow, especially when illicit means are used (see A Proverb A Day 10:2). Even gaining wealth legally, however, will still result in sorrow on the Judgment Day if it is without the Lord. When one puts God first and acquires wealth in a right way the Lord sends no sorrow with it (cf. Matthew 6:33). The right way involves hard work (Proverbs 21:25), diligence (Proverbs 12:24), planning (Proverbs 21:5), and living an honest life in general (cf. Proverbs 12:14).
