Tofu Christians

Tofu is regarded by the majority of people to be a substance not worth eating. It is bland and what little taste it has is unappealing. It is a versatile ingredient, however, as it takes on the flavors of whatever you put it with. It can be salty, sweet, spicy, or tangy all depending on the company it shares with other ingredients. Unfortunately, many Christians share these qualities of tofu.
First, many Christians are quite bland. Some like, those in the church at Ephesus have lost their first love (Revelation 2:4). They are just going through the motions of Christianity; they’re hearts are not really in it. Jesus says they need to remember from where they have fallen or they will not be a part of His church. Some like, those in the church at Laodicea, are useless (Revelation 3:15-16). They are lukewarm, neither good for healing or refreshing, they are good for nothing. They are too wrapped up in their own lives to truly serve Christ and His kingdom. Jesus feels like vomiting when He puts Tofu Christians in His mouth.
Second, many Christians are flavored by their company. When they are with Christians they acts like Christians. Their speech is good and clean; they love the church and those in it. When they are with their non-Christian friends or their co-workers, however, it is a different story. They cuss, tell dirty jokes, they talk bad about the church, gossip about the problems they are having with brother or sister so-and-so, etc. Some do this because their hearts are not sincere (cf. Matthew 6:2, 5, 16), but others because they do not realize the influence the world has on them. They want to fit in with those of the world and be comfortable (cf. 1 Corinthians 15:33). They do not fulfill their duty to be a light to the world (Matthew 5:14-16), or a pillar and support of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15). Tofu Christians accomplish nothing but making the church look like it is full of a bunch of hypocrites.
Tofu may be healthy and desirable for a diet despite its lack of taste and texture, but Tofu Christianity is spiritually devastating. We must worship God with all our hearts (cf. Mark 12:28-30). We must not be conformed to this world (Romans 12:2). We must be alert and focused on God in our day to days lives so that we are not just Tofu Christians.
